Scripture: Hebrews 13:16
Don’t forget to do good and to share what you have because God is pleased with these kinds of sacrifices.
Thought for the Day: Yesterday I took from my closet a lot of shirts and other items that I haven’t touched for more than a year. Donna and I made a big trip to Goodwill, but like so often, I looked at some of these shirts that had not been off the hanger for well over a year, and I struggled to let them go. It would be one thing if I only had two or three shirts, but how can eleven untouched shirts seem so important when others have so little. There are many people who have absolutely no problem in letting go of stuff, but for those of us that find a strange anxiousness coming over us whenever we ponder giving something away, we must ask WHY? What’s up with that? In six weeks, I won’t even remember having any of those shirts. In fact, I’ll probably find another half dozen that could be given away. Sharing pleases God, in part, because it allows those who have nothing to have something. But I believe it pleases God from a confessional standpoint. In letting go, this thing (shirt, pants, nicknack, old tool, books, etc.) no longer has power over us. It’s just an inanimate object, but we have given it power and authority over us. What do you need to share this day, and in doing so, you would find yourself confessing how some silly object had an unhealthy hold on you?
Prayer: Wherever I am owned by something other than your grace, O God, change my perspective or allow me to relinquish my grip. I ask this in the name of the one who can assist me in doing so, Jesus Christ. Amen.
