Ecclesiological Etchings

ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHING
October 27, 2021

Last Sunday I talked about reintroducing ourselves to Jesus on a daily basis. That was not intended as a negative to the people of Cypress Creek Christian Church. It was more of a challenge, a reminder of how Spiritual Practices need to be daily practices. I try to do a few moments of silence every morning, and to be honest, 4 out of 5 don’t necessarily yield anything I might describe as memorable. And then that one day, everything aligns and it is exactly what I needed. We should not expect some WOW moment every day because often what we do one day is only turning over the soil of our souls in preparation for a seed that is to come. One of the other Spiritual Practices in my life is to take a walk (when it’s not raining) with a line from scripture in my head and heart. Something short that is easily remembered, and in the last year or so I have focused on passages from the Gospels – specifically on Jesus’ interaction with others. Not long ago, it was the words from Luke 17 where Jesus says to a Samaritan man, “Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.” What does it mean to hear those words as if they are spoken to you? What does it mean to hear those words spoken to a person you may not believe is worthy of wholeness? These are just a couple of Spiritual Practices I use to reintroduce myself to Jesus.

Good Morning, God! May your Spirit reintroduce me to your enfleshed love, the man they called Jesus. Amen.
