Scripture: Ephesians 5:20
…always give thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ…
Thought for the Day: This is the core verse for our current worship series, and Sunday morning, I talked about the importance of making gratitude more than the occasional thought. And though it might have seemed strange to some, the key to the sermon was gratitude for those who bring some holy discomfort to our lives, specifically those areas that need some discomfort. Not that Jesus wishes for us to live in a state of discomfort, but when we’re not living the life God intended for us, we are already in a state of discomfort…whether we name it or not. Today, I am thankful for Dr. Joe Jones, a theology professor, who frustrated me beyond measure, but in doing so, assisted me in recognizing those areas of my life that were not necessarily aligning with God or aligning with a healthy sound understanding of God. Joe made me think to the point that my head often hurt, but the hurt was associated with the discomfort and disharmony that was already within me.
Prayer: Bring your Holy Spirit and some holy discomfort into my life, O Lord. Where I need a disruption for the purpose of aligning with you, bring that disruption. I may not like it, but if it means a more intimate relationship with you, then I will grow through it knowing that you will be with me every step of the way. Amen.
