Scripture: Proverbs 22:9
Happy are generous people, because they give some of their food to the poor.
Thought for the Day: The following came from our denomination:
Did you know that more people in the world have a cellphone than have a toilet? Sanitation is a global development priority. This is why the United Nations General Assembly designated 19 November as World Toilet Day.
That’s right, tomorrow is World Toilet Day. I’m sure a few people are giggling, but when you think about it, our First World perspective often skews our perception of the world. Throughout scripture, we are reminded to give, but it usually is in regard to food or an offering that goes to provide food. In a culture when toilets were the street for a majority of the population, poor sanitation and the diseases that came with it were fatal. If Jesus showed up today, don’t y0u think he’d emphasize sharing access to toilets as often as he told us to share our food? Actually, Jesus is already here in the form of the Body of Christ, the church. And so I think we know the answer to that question.
Prayer: Help me, O Holy Spirit, to see not what I want to see, but to see the real needs of my sisters and brothers around the globe. Open my eyes to see as you see. Amen.
