ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
November 19, 2025
I’ve always been captivated by the simple yet profound words of Mother Teresa, including, “Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.” I’m certain there are examples of people who went from zero to full-speed Jesus follower in less than 60 seconds, but for most of us, it was and is gradual and incremental. We build upon our progress, even when we encounter setbacks or distractions. Discipleship—the act of choosing to follow in the ways of Jesus—is most effectively embraced through consistent and steady progress that builds upon itself. Of course, there are moments of inspiration that yield a leap forward, but most people don’t experience daily or even weekly leaps. It’s those who remain undeterred by the stumbles and distractions who tend to have the most profound impact on the world.
Thank you for loving me, Lord Jesus, whether my day has consisted of choices that have honored you or have fallen a bit short. In whatever way yesterday ended, let me seek to bring the best version of myself to the opportunities that will be set before me today. Amen.
