Scripture: Proverbs 1:4-6 (the Message)To teach the inexperienced the ropes and give our young people a grasp on reality. There’s something here also for seasoned men and women, still a thing or two for the experienced to learn – Fresh wisdom to probe and penetrate, the rhymes and reasons of wise men and women.
Thought for the Day: The author, Khalil Gibran, wrote:
I have learned silence from the talkative, toleration from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind; yet strange, I am ungrateful to those teachers.
I am going to disagree just a bit with Gibran’s words as I wish to express some gratitude for those who have taught me by their poor examples, for the lessons they have taught me have been quite profound and lasting. It is not that I wish for others to witness the talkative, the intolerant or the unkind, but their rude behavior is often shocking enough to awaken me to what I definitely do not want to be. Good examples are probably better, but some of the lousy examples I have seen are the most memorable.
Prayer: Teach me, O Lord, no matter the circumstance. Give me an awareness to learn, even when the teacher is about ready to do what you do not wish me to do. Amen.
