Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: James 2:18
Someone might claim, “You have faith and I have action.” But how can I see your faith apart from your actions? Instead, I’ll show you my faith by putting it into practice in faithful action.

Thought for the Day: The Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan recently paid off more than $560,000 worth of debt owed by farmers in India. This comes amid an  agricultural crisis that has left many farmers in extreme poverty. In a post from Tuesday, Bachchan wrote about the 1,398 farmers in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh that are now debt-free. He added these words:

“Gratitude leans across to the desire of removing some of the burdens that farmers continue to suffer from…and the inner peace it generates when the desired is completed…”

Gratitude has movement – it seeks to be embodied in acts that bring to life the ever expanding feeling within one’s spirit. James spoke about showing his faith by putting it into practice, yet faith is birthed from the gratitude we feel toward God’s love. Faith and gratitude are inseparable partners, and whether you speak of faith or gratitude, they both require a response.

Prayer: When so many are going crazy in finding the best deal, O God who has given the greatest gift, I pray for a spirit of gratitude to dwell within me and grow forth from me. Amen.
