ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHING

During the first half of the 18th century, a Jesuit Priest by the name of Jean-Pierre de Caussde wrote, “There is no peace more wonderful than the peace we enjoy when faith shows us God in all created things.” I love the idea of faith showing us God. We too often think of it in reverse. We think of faith as a response to a God experience, but this suggests that faith allows us to perceive the God who is in all things. Ephesians 4 reminds us how God is through all and in all, yet too often we are utterly oblivious. May this day of Thanksgiving give us reason to pause and allow for faith to be a lens through which we see what was always there in front of us.
Guide my spiritual vision, O God, to glimpse you anew in the ordinary things I see every day. Amen.
