Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Acts 26:20 (the Message)
I started preaching this life-change – this radical turn to God and everything it meant in everyday life – right there in Damascus, went on to Jerusalem and the surrounding countryside, and from there to the whole world.

Thought for the Day: Zach and I walked out of the church the other day, and he saw the big welcome sign that had: “Rev. Bruce Frogge” on it.  Zach asked, “What does R-E-V mean?”  “What do you think?” I asked.  He thought about it for a minute, and then said, “Revolutionary?”  I laughed and then explained that it stood for “The Reverend,” but as the words came out of my mouth, I realized that Reverend is like reverent and respectful.  Maybe there lies the problem.  The church, this radical community called forth by God, is under the guidance of those who have taken a title that says, “Don’t expect anything surprising or unusual here.”  After thinking about it for a few moments, I told Zach that I thought he might be onto something.  I then asked if I should change my title to, “The Most Revolutionary Bruce Frogge.”  He gave me one of those looks and said, “No!”

Prayer: Spark some passion within us, O Lord, through another infusion of your Holy Spirit.  I think we are in need of a jump start.  Amen.

  1. When used as an adjective, the term revolutionary refers to something that has a major, sudden impact on society or on some aspect of human endeavor…. I’m thinking if you can inspire many of the “unchurched” surrounding the church to give it a try…. The Most Revolutionary Bruce Frogge could stick!
