Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:17
So then, if anyone is in Christ, that person is part of the new creation. The old things have gone away, and look, new things have arrived!

Thought for the Day: As I am writing this, I am also saying it out loud – it is December! It is hard to believe that we find ourselves here again. It’s interesting that the name December comes from the Latin, decem, which means ten. Of course, December is the twelfth month of the year, but it’s name came from the Roman calendar and it was the tenth (and final) month for them. Whatever the case, December is the end – the final month in the year. For Christians, that does not fit our calendar. For you see, Advent (which begins around December 1, December 2 this year) is not the end of anything. In fact, it is the beginning. Advent is the New Year’s celebration for Christians, and marks the beginning of the Christian year. Most of you didn’t think you needed to buy that gym membership until January 1, but maybe you need to look into it a bit sooner. With all seriousness, Advent is an exceptional time to begin something healthy, positive, uplifting and spiritually enhancing. Or maybe this is the year to extend an invitation to someone you know who is seeking something healthy, positive, uplifting and spiritually enhancing. During this season of Advent, let us search ways to be more fully in Christ and his new creation.

Prayer: I won’t ring in the New Church Year at midnight tonight, but I will seek whatever is needed from you, O Spirit of the coming Emmanuel, to more fully participate in your new creation. Amen.

ADEVNT BEGINS TOMORROW
