Ecclesiological Etchings

ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHING
December 3, 2021

Paul wrote on more than one occasion about not being weary when it comes to doing what is right. It almost sounds like something you would hear from a parent, though maybe worded in a slightly different way. Paul spoke those words in 2 Thessalonians, and then just a few verses later, he wrote: “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in all ways.” I could be wrong, but I think Paul recognized the challenges when it came to keeping strong and not becoming weary – specifically in the areas of maintaining peace within oneself and being a source of peace in the world. Like I’ve referenced a lot lately, I see the word “all” appear twice in this verse. Being an instrument of peace is challenging no matter the circumstance, but “at all times in all ways” is a high bar that most of us will struggle to achieve. Yet Paul wrote to his folks (and to us) about not being weary when it comes to the good work which would include a life of peace.

Whenever I feel weary and heavy burdened, O God, I will do my best to make room for your gift of peace to enter into my life and dwell there. Amen.
