Scripture: Luke 1:39-40
Mary got up and hurried to a city in the Judean highlands. She entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth.
Thought for the Day: This was not a short trip for Mary, yet there was something that drew her to the home of Elizabeth. They were ‘relatives’ according to Luke’s Gospel, but nothing in regard to the specifics of their relationship. They were kin, not only by blood, but through the experience of God working in their lives. Have you ever known the nod of recognition? This nod is what comes when someone knows your story well enough that s/he doesn’t need to hear the whole thing told. That nod of recognition is appreciated in the sense that it is good to have those in our lives who understand on a very intuitive level our unique story without explaining all the details. Who are those people in your life?
Prayer: The whole church throughout the generations gives thanks to you, O Lord, for the faithfulness of Mary and Elizabeth. As their story is told again this Advent Season, give us insight into their special relationship. Amen.
