Ecclesiological Etchings

ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
December 8, 2022

In Isaiah 9, we read the rather simple yet profound words: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light…” Someone might read those words and say to themselves, “That’s nice,” while others who have walked through some pretty bleak moments of life can find themselves getting a bit emotional as they begin to describe what it means to glimpse even just a spark of light. And equally powerful is when someone points to you and says, “You were that light when everything else appeared lost.” When the church is at its best, and I’ve seen that in recent months at Cypress Creek Christian Church, we are that unexpected yet joyous spark of hope to many people facing some pretty difficult times. When anyone says, “I just don’t see the relevance of church,” it is clear they have not allowed themselves to be involved in a church like Cypress Creek.

Holy God, as we celebrate the birth of the one we know as the Light of the World, let us be both grateful for how that gift continues to come into our lives and mindful of how we might help facilitate that gift for others. Amen.
