Prayer for the Week: When life becomes a bit too busy, when this so-called joyous season leaves us feeling unsettled and frazzled, we seek the assistance of your Spirit, O God, so that we do not rush past your gift of love enfleshed. May your Spirit be a source of peace by which we can pause, breathe and take notice of the one they called Emmanuel. Help us to perceive this Season of Advent, not as a sprint to the finish, but an intentional and cognizant journey from darkness to light. Make us aware of the little details and easily overlooked happenings by which you so often reveal and retell your story of redemption. Where the unhealthy values of greed, arrogance and indifference filter their way surreptitiously into the narrative of Jesus’ birth, give us the courage to stand against them, and in doing so, provide a witness to your life-giving ethos. May we know and utilize what the Apostle Paul described as the peace that surpasses all understanding. And as this peace resides more deeply within us, may it provide us the space to pause, breathe and take notice of the one they called Emmanuel. It is to the glory of this gift that we pray. Amen.
