Ecclesiological Etchings

ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
December 15, 2022

I had lunch with someone yesterday at a place I had never been. The food was fabulous, the staff amazing, and the lunch conversation was exceptional. On my drive home, I listened to part of a podcast in which there was a passing comment about the gifts we miss in life. For whatever reason, we simply might miss them, or maybe we have convinced ourselves that they are not gifts. We have not fully appreciated the humility of God’s enfleshing in the form of a child, a humility we should be using as a model. Maybe I should not use the plural pronoun “we” and simply own it for myself. Whatever the case, what gifts might I be missing this very day—gifts that, if acknowledged and valued, might be a wonderful source of joy and delight.

I come requesting your assistance, O Giver of Good Gifts. There is no question that I have missed the grandeur of your grace, the splendor of your love, the magnificence of your mercy, and the beauty of your kindness. It frequently appears among the people I take for granted, the unappreciated privilege I possess, and everyday occurrences that are assumed to be deserved. Humble this heart of mine, and then provide me with a holy vision capable of perceiving you at work all around me. Amen.
