Scripture: Luke 1:54-55
The Lord has come to the aid of his servant Israel, remembering his mercy, just as he promised to our ancestors, to Abraham and to Abraham’s descendants forever.
Thought for the Day: This passage from Mary’s Magnificat speaks of the Lord coming to the aid of his servant. A better translation, in my opinion, is: The Lord has come and embraced his servant… To aid someone in need is often thought of in terms of medical treatment, but equally important is the longing to be held by the arms of one who cares. Medicine and good medical care are wonderful, but prior to the surgery or the treatment, it is nice to feel the presence of another human being. Mary’s Magnificat declaration is for those who have been forgotten and marginalized. To be welcomed through a tangible expression of love is powerful.
Prayer: O God, thanks for expressing your vision in and through the Christ Child. May those of us who make-up the Body of Christ, the church, continue to enflesh your vision as we come alongside sisters and brothers who yearn for the presence of another. Amen.
