Ecclesiological Etchings

ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS
December 30, 2022

Yesterday, I wrote about forgiveness. There is, of course, more to say on the subject. When I think about the frustration that comes with seriously pondering an attempt at forgiveness, I appreciate the words of Brené Brown: “…sometimes when we are beating ourselves up, we need to stop and say to that harassing voice inside, ‘Man, I’m doing the very best I can right now.’” In the work of forgiveness, it is sort of essential to be willing to give yourself a break while you continue to push ahead with the hard work. That might sound a little contradictory, but the whole notion of forgiveness is sort of absurd. With that said, as followers of Jesus, we are sort of in the business of the absurd. And the spirit of Jesus seems to always be ready to help.

God, keep me going for the sake of my health and the health of the world in which I live. Amen.
