Prayer for the Week:
Guide us toward a future that may not in this moment be imaginable to us. Lead us, Gracious God, in the direction of your Kin(g)dom being made real in this world. Invite us to be participants as it is brought to life in the here and now. Encourage us as we strive to embody all your Kin(g)dom represents, including kindness, generosity, mercy, justice, patience, hope and love. Nudge us in those moments when we can demonstrate your dream for this world in very simple ways each day. We ask this prayer in the name of all that is good and holy and joy-filled. Amen.
(Side note – I have used Kin(g)dom a few times lately. It is not unique to me, and in fact, I used it quite often more than twenty years ago. The word is employed for different reason, but I occasionally use it because the idea of Kingdom is rather distant from our 21st Century minds. And though I’m not ready to toss it to the side, I’ve always liked the idea of a kin-dom – bringing a sense of family, a sacred gathering of kinsfolk.)
