ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHING
April 16, 2022
A number of years ago I heard an archeologist make a passing comment that really stuck with me. He was referring to the building of the Egyptian Pyramids, and he said, “There were thousands upon thousands of slaves who spent their entire adult lives building tombs for men and women who would most likely outlive them.” The sole purpose in life for those slaves was to build another person’s grave. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a rather empty life. Sadly, I believe a lot of folks are living a similar life today (if you can call that living). On this Holy Saturday as Jesus lies dead in the tomb, it gives us time to reflect upon the meaning of his life and death, while also asking ourselves what we need to let die so we can live the abundant life Jesus described.
Free me, O Loving God, to live a life that reflects what you had in mind when I was first born – a life full of hope, joy, love, peace and grace. Amen.
