ECCLESIOLOGICAL ETCHINGS

Jesus understood that some folks are hard nuts to crack, and simply telling them who he was and what is mission was all about was not going to break their thick shell of disbelief. In Luke 22, Jesus was conversing with some of the religious leaders. They asked “If you are the Messiah, tell us.” Jesus replied, “If I tell you, you will not believe…” Too often we complain about such people as close-minded or difficult, but maybe those of us who have found the joy of faith should take some responsibility. Jesus understood that simply telling them would make no difference. It was the way they were wired. For such people, our lives and actions need to offer a patient proclamation of what it means to claim Jesus as a clear window through which we see the heart of God.
