Scripture: John 9:39
Jesus said, “I came into this world for judgment so that those who do not see may see, and those who do see may become blind.”

Thought for the Day: A few days back, I mentioned Richard Rohr who is one of the faithful voices that stirs my spirit.  Rohr writes, “This life journey has led me to love mystery and not feel the need to change it or make it un-mysterious. This has put me at odds with many other believers I know who seem to need explanations for everything.” Most of us like answers, solutions, known outcomes and clarifications. In Math 101, this desire can usually be met. In Christianity 101, it is a bit more difficult, though too often followers of Jesus force an explanation on mystery, require clarification for the enigma. As a pastor, I would like to provide simple straightforward answers to every question put before me, and trust me, there are pastors who claim to have such answers. I don’t — and I believe faith invites us to appreciate mystery and the beauty of the indescribable nature of God’s love. In scripture, we find over and over how those who are blind are in fact the ones who fully perceive, while those whose vision is 20/20 are unable to see.  Why is it? I don’t have an answer, yet there is something in my experience that suggests it is true.

Prayer: Even when I am unable to fully appreciate you, O Lord, may I find comfort in the mystery of a love that includes me despite my lack of explanation. Amen.
