Scripture: Deuteronomy 31:7-8
Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel: “Be strong and bold, for you are the one who will go with this people into the land that the Lord has sworn to their ancestors to give them; and you will put them in possession of it. It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
Thought for the Day: Yesterday in the sermon, I spoke about finding a boldness by knowing who we are. In this passage, Moses was bringing a message to Joshua – informing Joshua that he would be the one to lead the people into the Promised Land. This must have been frightening for Joshua to hear as he would have always expected Moses to be the one who God would use. Recognizing his surprise, Moses provides four very assuring notes:
1. The Lord will go before you;
2. The Lord will be with you;
3. The Lord will not fail you;
4. The Lord will not forsake you.
Moses must have been convincing, for Joshua lived his life as one who was strong and bold. If you build a strong foundation under someone, there is a good chance something amazing will be built upon that foundation.
Prayer: Let me build what I can upon the strong foundation of your promises, my Lord and my God. Amen.
