Scripture: Jeremiah 9:24
No, those who boast should boast in this: that they understand and know me. I am the LORD who acts with kindness, justice, and righteousness in the world, and I delight in these things, declares the LORD.

Thought for the Day: For me, this is one of the pivotal scriptures in the book of Jeremiah. In just a few words, we are reminded of who God is and how it is that we are to live. When the prophet describes God in terms of kindness, justice and righteousness, he also says that the Lord delights in these things. The word delight, in the original Hebrew, is Chaphets. Chaphets can be translated as delight or takes pleasure, but it also means to lean or bend. I remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s great quote:

Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice…

In Dr. King’s theology, I believe he was describing the character of the Creator whose very essence leans toward justice (kindness and righteousness). And if the Creator leans or bends in one direction, those who carry the image of the Creator should also lean or bend in that direction.

Prayer: Let me lean with you, Righteous Father, in the direction that will help to bring this world a little closer to your righteousness. Amen.
