Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Psalm 6:2
Have mercy on me, LORD, because I’m frail. Heal me, LORD, because my bones are shaking in terror!

Thought for the Day: We opened yesterday’s services with these words of scripture. Though a few thousand years have come and gone since those words were first spoken, they do not feel ancient or irrelevant. In fact, the words of the Psalm have been spoken in all kinds of setting by all kinds of people this very week. They reflect the feelings of those who believe their foundation is crumbling because of difficulties or suffering, yet the foundation of God’s love never crumbles. In those moments when we feel frail and our very structure is shaking, we often assume it is God who is shaking. In fact, it is only us. And our cry to God is the first step to once again reconnecting with the foundation that never moves.

Prayer: Lord, I am frail and shaking. In my suffering and fears, I feel as if things are falling apart. Bring me back to the firm foundation which is you. Bring me back and allow me to feel confident in your love that never falls away. Amen.
