Scripture: Colossians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, do it from the heart for the Lord and not for people. You know that you will receive an inheritance as a reward. You serve the Lord Christ.
Thought for the Day: It was St. Augustine who wrote:
Find out how much God has given you
and from it take what you need;
the reminder is needed by others.
It is an excellent suggestion, but it requires us to be in touch with God when it comes to our real needs. Most of us, and I must include myself in this statement, have a pretty skewed understanding of our needs. Most all of us in the United States are struggling with financial issues that are First World financial issues. We are frustrated because we can’t afford HBO or a new lawn mower, higher internet speed or season tickets to a professional sport’s team, those really fancy shoes or new bedroom furniture.
I don’t wish to pretend I know exactly what God wants of you, except to say that I’m pretty sure it is more than it currently is. And I’m not simply speaking of finances, though often our misguided priorities around money have us limiting what we can share.
Prayer: God, teach me to be generous in all things. Guide me to take another step by which I give a little more of myself to you. Amen.
