Scripture: 2nd Corinthians 9:6
What I mean is this: the one who sows a small number of seeds will also reap a small crop, and the one who sows a generous amount of seeds will also reap a generous crop.
Thought for the Day: John D. Rockefeller, Sr. is one of the fascinating people in American history. Along with becoming one of the wealthiest people in all the world, he was also an incredibly faithful Christian. Influenced by his mother, he went to church all his life – even as an adult, attending worship every Sunday morning and prayer meetings every Friday night. He retired in his early 50’s so that he could spend more time distributing his wealth for the betterment of society. It is suggested that he changed the idea of philanthropy in the United States. One of the quotes I have always loved is this:
I never would have been able to tithe
the first million dollars I ever made
if I had not tithed my first salary,
which was $1.50 per week.
I hear people say all the time, “I just can’t tithe…it is too big of a stretch.” Others say,”I don’t even know where to begin.” In both cases, the simple suggestion is to begin. Maybe it is not with 10% of your income, but a smaller amount…but with the intention of growing it each year. Maybe, for you, it is an invitation to do a whole reprioritizing of your budget. This is not going to be a quick fix, but a dramatic rethinking of what is important, essential and aligns with your values. It is about choices, and if the mission and vision of Cypress Creek Christian Church is important to you, it is about choosing to invest a part of yourself that represents your conviction.
Prayer: Wherever I have convinced myself that I simply cannot do more, please – Mighty God – allow me to see opportunities for growth that otherwise are beyond my vision. Amen.
