Scripture: Proverbs 14:6
A mocker searches for wisdom and gets none, but knowledge comes quickly to the intelligent.
Thought for the Day: Sticking with Proverbs 14, I am struck by the common sense of these words. And if they are so basic and full of common sense, why did the author even need to reference them? I think the answer comes when we take a deep breath and look around us. The mockers (people who scorn others) often claim a so-called wisdom, and then spin their nonsense to a world that has very little interest in truth-telling. Those with knowledge are mocked and scorned by those with alternative agendas and those who claim an alternative set of facts. Now due process is important, and time is often needed to research or do the necessary work to uncover what might have been hidden, but all of us need to search for wisdom and strive toward truth-telling. At the end of the day, I want my great-grandchildren to hear of how I spoke the truth even when it was not popular or lucrative. My fear for many is that they will be mocked and scorned by their great-grandchildren for the mess that was left because wisdom was ignored.
Prayer: Though I may like or feel more comfortable with one opinion or another, I pray to you, O Giver of Wisdom and Light, that I might go beyond earthly comfort and security to find truth that is the real source of comfort and security. Amen.
