A Simple Spiritual Practice

Ecclesiological Etchings

A Simple Spiritual Practice: Before going to bed tonight, review your plans for tomorrow.  Think about where you will go and who you might see.  Look for potential opportunities to take advantage of what is already going to be occurring.  For example, you might be headed to a meeting in the early afternoon, but you know that a beautiful park is near where you will be.  Take your Bible, arrive 10 minutes early, and walk through the park while reflecting on the words of Psalm 24:1-3:

The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it; for he has founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers.  Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place?

Or maybe you will be meeting someone for lunch that you respect.  Prepare a question you would like for him/her to reflect upon.  As you listen to his/her thoughts, don’t interrupt or add your own ideas.  Simply allow this person’s insights to engage your own thoughts.

It doesn’t take too much time, but you must think ahead.  Take advantage of what the potential opportunities that the day will already be offering you.  Get creative…see what tomorrow might hold.
