Scripture: Proverbs 12:24-26

The hand of the diligent will rule, while the lazy will be put to forced labor. Anxiety weighs down the human heart, but a good word cheers it up. The righteous gives good advice to friends, but the way of the wicked leads astray.

Thought for the Day: Like so many sections of the Proverbs, it feels as if we are receiving good advice from a grandparent or trusted friend.  Though much of the wisdom of scripture encourages prudence and patience, it is not to be confused with laziness or procrastination. How often has God’s dream for the world been delayed because of well conceived excuses masking themselves as faithfulness? God needs more than a lot of chatter; God needs faithful dreamers who seek the divine will with the expectation of acting upon whatever is discovered. Let us not allow anxiety or laziness to derail what it is that God believes can be achieved through us. Instead, let us enter into this time with a cheerful attitude made available to the leading of the Spirit.

Prayer: Create within us a spiritual excitement, O Father God, that desires to discover your call and to accept that call in our lives. Amen.

This Sunday, check out what Jenny is doing…
