Scripture: 2nd Corinthians 4:11 (the Message)
Our lives are at constant risk for Jesus’ sake, which makes Jesus’ life all the more evident in us.
Thought for the Day: I was watching a Bowl Game yesterday when a commercial came on that depicted a new exciting car. In the commercial, they drove the car off a cliff. The car appeared to fly while the announcer explained all the amazing characteristics of this new vehicle. I didn’t find the commercial all that exceptional, but I did chuckle when I noticed at the bottom of the screen the words, “Don’t attempt this at home.” At no point in watching that car fly off the cliff did I think to myself, “Hey! I need to give that a try.” There are times in which we as people of faith need to take risks, but risk isn’t stupidity. It may appear a little crazy to some, but it always has as both its method and goal the love of God. In fact, I think our inability to take some faithful risk is the most significant reason the church is in decline. There are so many non-church people in our culture who claim a genuine respect for Jesus, but then add that they see nothing within the church that resembles the amazing ways of Jesus. It hurts to hear that, but there is truth to the critique. How will your life in this new year (and the life of the church where you serve) better demonstrate the risk-taking nature of Jesus?
Prayer: Provide me with spirit-filled convictions, Mighty God, that I may remain faithful when I am called upon to take a risk. Amen.
