Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Psalm 34:14
Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

Thought for the Day: In the book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Quirrell (a teacher whose body plays host to the Dark Lord, Voldemort) says to Harry, “Lord Voldemort showed me how wrong I was.  There is no good and evil, there is only power, and those too weak to seek it…”  These words come from a fictional character in a fantasy book, yet they reflect reality in the sense that there are many who believe the sentiment of those words and act upon it.  The lure of power and the justification of its use in ways that are harmful is a regular occurrence.  How might the church stand more firmly in the message, “Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it”?

Prayer: Heavenly Provider, give me grace over power, peace above authority, so the work of Christ may flourish.  Amen.
