GETTING READY FOR EPIPHANY

Scripture: Matthew 2:1-2
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in the territory of Judea during the rule of King Herod, magi came from the east to Jerusalem. They asked, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We’ve seen his star in the east, and we’ve come to honor him.”

Thought for the Day: Do we spend time seeking, inquiring and discerning? The magi from the east were individuals who did not wait for faith to find them. They did not expect that spiritual discovery would come easy, and for that reason, they were willing to leave behind what was known/comfortable in search of what they believed to be life-giving for them and the world. As we begin this new year and use the magi as our example, what might we need to leave behind in our search for what is life-giving? This is an important question to ask individually and corporately…remembering that faith is never delivered on a silver platter. It requires us to seek, inquire and discern.

Prayer: O God who guides with light from above, continue to draw us to you and into the relationship for which our lives yearn. It is a journey for us all, and so prepare us to receive all that Epiphany has to teach us. Amen.
