Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins.
Thought for the Day: In the movie, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, the character named Sonny is talking to his mother, a very traditional woman in India, about his girlfriend. His mother only wants to talk about an arranged marriage with a young woman from their community. She says, “And I look forward to you meeting the woman you will marry. She is from a good family in Delhi.” Sonny says, “I can marry as I choose, Mummyji. I need no permission.” Somewhat upset, his mother responds, “I presume it is your girlfriend who teaches you such nonsense. One reason not to marry her.” Sonny asks, “What if I love her?” To which she says, “An even better reason [not to marry her].” Traditions are a funny thing, and though arranged marriages might have worked in certain cultures (I say that somewhat cautiously), I find it interesting how tradition can so often usurp love. We have seen it happen more than once within Christianity, and though tradition is important, it should always help us to experience love and the One who is the ultimate source of love. Not diminish it!
Prayer: As you, Lord, put love above all things, may I do the same…or at least try. Amen.
