TODAY IS EPIPHANY
(arrivial of the magi/wisemen)

Scripture: Matthew 2:7-9
Then Herod secretly called for the magi and found out from them the time when the star had first appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search carefully for the child. When you’ve found him, report to me so that I too may go and honor him.” When they heard the king, they went; and look, the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stood over the place where the child was.

Thought for the Day: Have you ever been asked to do someone else’s dirty work? At the time, you may not have even known you had been deceived and used. The magi were used by Herod to go and find this threat, but of course, the magi did not return to Herod as they returned home a different way. There are times when we need to face those who seek to exploit or dupe us – to call out their hurtful ways. There are other times when it make sense to simply go home by another way. There is no magical answer for when is the right time to do one or the other, but I’ve got to believe that God helped the magi make the decision they made. There are times when God wants us to face those who seek to use or abuse us, and other times when God invites us to seek the safe path.

Prayer: Let me be a strong voice against those who seek us harm when you want us to be the strong voice, O Spirit of Courage. Let us seek alternative paths when that is your wish. Amen.
