Scripture: Luke 6:12
One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.
Thought for the Day: Back in 1998, I participated in a 36-hour fasting and prayer retreat. Now fifteen years later, I don’t know if I could do another 36 hours of silence and fasting…without sleep. It takes a toll on the body and spirit, though our intention was to name the weaknesses within us. The retreat leader claimed that if we recognized and faced our weaknesses, they could actually become a source of strength. It doesn’t sound like it should makes sense, but I can guarantee you that unnamed vulnerabilities will always be a danger in every aspect of life. Jesus understood the need for preparation before facing difficulty. Within Luke’s Gospel, we find Jesus praying in advance of situations where unrecognized weaknesses could have been devastating.
Prayer: I desire to be more faithful to you, O Lord and Sustainer of life, so I request your assistance as I look intentionally and honestly within myself. Amen.
