Ecclesiological Etchings: 01-10-13

Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Proverbs 22:16
Oppressing the poor in order to enrich oneself, and giving to the rich, will lead only to loss.

Thought for the Day: On this day in 1645, William Laud (Archbishop of Canterbury) was beheaded because he supported the state instead of the people during the English Civil War.    That’s a bit of an oversimplification, but too often Christianity has sided with the powerful instead of the poor.  It might be good economics, but it rarely can be defended with the use of scripture.  It is one thing to die for your faith because you were a voice for the voiceless and a defender of the weak.  It’s another thing to die because the oppressed finally rose up and decided to get rid of the religious leaders who gave a blessing to the tyrants.  At the end of the day, let us remember those for whom we are called to stand.

Prayer: Lead me, Lord of All, to be a spokesperson for those who would otherwise be forgotten…even when it’s not popular.  Amen.

  1. I appreciate your thoughts. You are a brave man! Thanks for being willing to stand for what is right. And by the way….I actually believe that what is spiritually sound is financially sound. Love you.
