Scripture: Proverbs 14:28 (the Message)
The mark of a good leader is loyal followers; leadership is nothing without a following.
Thought for the Day: Peter Morgan, the former head of the Disciples of Christ Historical Society, wrote the following in an article entitled: “Disciple Elders: Then and Now”—
Alexander Campbell believed Christians are privileged to share actively in all ministries of the church, including the celebration of the Lord s Supper. He believed that the traditional churches of Christendom were too much under the control of the professional ministry—‘the kingdom of the clergy’ he called it.
Throughout my ministry, some of the greatest moments have been to see someone step into leadership within the life of the church — a position that fits his/her set of gifts — and suddenly the individual feels alive with a spirit-filled purpose. Not everyone is called to be a leader in the life of the church, but many of the leaders understand humility so well that they are the ones who are following.
Prayer: Continue to give me a sense of purpose, Lord God, so that my life can honor you with all I do. Amen.
