Scripture: Romans 14:21 (the Message)
When you sit down to a meal, your primary concern should not be to feed your own face but to share the life of Jesus. So be sensitive and courteous to the others who are eating. Don’t eat or say or do things that might interfere with the free exchange of love.
Thought for the Day: There are times in scripture when the words need very little commentary. In Eugene Peterson’s translation of this passage, I find myself reading the words over and over again. I do, not because they lack clarity, but because they are so straightforward and relevant. Take a moment to reread this verse, and then ask yourself, “Where have I interfered with the free exchange of love, whether it was around a meal or around the office?”
Prayer: God, allow the uninterrupted love that flows from you continue to flow through me. Amen.
