Scripture: Mark 1:12
And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness.
Thought for the Day: This verse follows the story we talked about yesterday in worship – the story of Jesus’ baptism. And in Mark style, Jesus is immediately driven into the wilderness. There is no elaborate description of what happened in the desert, but what happens there is important enough that the Spirit drove him there. For some reason, the Spirit believed it was where Jesus needed to be. We tend to think of the desert-like places as deficient and inadequate for our survival, but maybe its emptiness is what we need. Maybe the lack of distraction will make us more attentive to the presence of God.
Prayer: Lord, it appears a bit frightening, but send me into the desert if you believe it will result in a deeper and more committed relationship with you. Amen.
