Scripture: Romans 12:12
Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer.
Thought for the Day: I read a lot of pithy little sayings, but occasionally one will speak to me. Recently, I came across a Chinese Proverb that spoke to my heart. It read, “You cannot prevent the birds of sorrow from flying over your head, but you can prevent them from building nests in your hair.” Too many Christians believe their faith vaccinates them from suffering and sorrow, but Jesus never promised a life free from such experiences. Instead, we are promised a presence that provides strength, encouragement and hope amidst the difficulties of life. In the end, we may be affected by the suffering and sorrow, but we are not ultimately defined by these experiences unless we give them permission to roost within us or upon us.
Prayer: As I come into your presence through prayer, O Gracious God, allow your unceasing love to reclaim me over and against that which besieges my life. Amen.
