Scripture: Luke 4:38-39
After leaving the synagogue he entered Simon’s house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked him about her. Then he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. Immediately she got up and began to serve them.
Thought for the Day: I find it interesting that Simon’s mother-in-law did not feel the need to discuss what had happened or to write a book of her experience as a means of making a large sum of money. Instead, her response was to get up and begin serving Jesus. For some people, the response to a blessed encounter with Jesus is to say, “What can I get out of this experience.” For Simon’s mother-in-law and others, it is about responding with a tangible act of gratitude.
Prayer: O God who is Creator and Healer, we are awed by the way your grace frees us from those unhealthy powers that grip us. In thankful praise, I serve both you and my neighbor. Amen.
