Scripture: Titus 3:4-7
But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. This Spirit he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Thought for the Day: The actor who played the Professor from Gilligan’s Island, Russell Johnson, died yesterday. As a kid who grew-up watching the show religiously, including the later TV specials, I was a bit sad to hear the news. I thought Gilligan best described Professor Roy Hinkley (not everyone knows he had a name besides Professor) when he said, “Thanks, Professor! Talking to you is like looking up the answers in the back of the book.” Of course this brilliant man’s ideas for getting off the island were always spoiled by Gilligan’s ineptness, but it never stopped the Professor from trying again…and again. At times, I feel like we as human beings are a lot like Gilligan, and though God is creating these amazing opportunities, we make a major blunder. The Skipper-like folk of this world might smack us with their hat and be angry, but God immediately moves to the next plan for the next episode of our lives. God shows us loving kindness even when we continue to pull a Gilligan.
Prayer: Thanks for being generous with your love, O Savior God, and may this generosity help to strengthen my faithfulness to your ways. Amen.
