Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Luke 6:35 (the Message)
I tell you, love your enemies. Help and give without expecting a return. You’ll never – I promise – regret it. Live out this God-created identity the way our Father lives toward us, generously and graciously, even when we’re at our worst.

Thought for the Day: In a time where we are seeing atrocious acts of misguided and misplaced hatred, I am reminded of Voltaire who wrote, “What is tolerance? It is the consequence of humanity. We are all formed of frailty and error; let us pardon reciprocally each other’s folly – that is the first law of nature.” We are quick to judge and to act upon those judgements, yet our claim to be followers of Jesus simply does not allow us to judge others. There is no excuse whatsoever, because a true relationship with Jesus brings an awareness of self that is honest and humble. In faith, we become a people who recognize that the shortcomings of others are simply a reminder of our own shortcomings… flaws and failings that God’s love came to heal and redeem.

Prayer: Giver of Life, may the humanity of others be our connection with them, not the tool by which we judge them. Amen.
