Scripture: Psalm 98:5-8
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody. With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord. Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who live in it. Let the floods clap their hands; let the hills sing together for joy…
Thought for the Day: Even the creation around us joins in worship. The author of this poem uses anthropomorphism (placing human characteristics or behavior on something other than a human being) to describe parts of nature giving praise to God. Of course, the hills don’t technically sing, but I do think creation worships God by doing what it was created to do. The hill and the waters and the sea are all doing exactly what they are supposed to do, and in that, they are worshipping. We as human beings were created to put love first — loving God and loving neighbor — and when we are doing what we were created to do, we are worshipping God.
Prayer: Gracious God, allow my gratitude and awe to find fulfillment in loving you and loving those you created. Amen.
