Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.

Thought for the Day: There are some pieces of scripture where the words need to wash over us, allowing our souls to be refreshed by the sustaining quality of their implications.  This offering of grace as recorded in John’s Gospel is one of those passages that needs to be read often, and should be read to us in such a way that we acknowledge it as a gift.  To be given peace, the peace that Paul describes as surpassing all understanding, is what allows us to move forward amidst difficulty, sorrow, guilt or anger.  Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.”  Hear those words anew; allow them to spill into the fractured places of your life; find a sense of contentment and inner serenity that you did not know possible.  This is Christ’s gift to you.

Prayer: Each day I need to hear again your promise of peace, O Lord.  Allow it to reform me so I, and those I encounter, may live just a bit more like your kingdom vision where love is fully known, joy is shared and peace prevails.  Amen.
