Scripture: Romans 12:12
Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer.
Thought for the Day: As I sat down to write this devotional, I first glanced at my to-do list for the week. I was pleased to see the number of items I got checked off the list yesterday. It made me feel as if the day had been productive. As my attention turned to these simple words from Romans, I had a sense I was reading another to-do list. Rejoice in hope… Check! Be patient in suffering… Check! Persevere in prayer… Check! All done!” It might work for some, but what I think Paul has done with this verse is to create a system in which each one is dependent upon the other. I need to work on each one, and as I work on any given one, it will strengthen the others.
Prayer: I turn to you, O Gracious God, not to remove an item off my to-do list. You are not an item to check off the list. You are the foundation from which I will better tackle the list itself. Amen.
