Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Mark 2:27
Then Jesus said to them, “The sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath…”

Thought for the Day: Red Skelton once said, “If by chance some day you’re not feeling well and you should remember some silly thing I’ve said or done and it brings back a smile to your face or a chuckle to your heart, then my purpose as your clown has been fulfilled.”  I love it when someone finds a purpose and embraces that purpose.  Though too often we become so hung-up or obsessed with the tools for our purpose that we forget our purpose.  The Sabbath is an amazing tool for the intentional work of connecting with God, but let us never allow Sabbath to become the end-all of our faith.  God is where we are always going.

Prayer: Father God, invite me into your presence this Sabbath Day.  Allow the collective faith experiences that enrich this holy day to draw me to your side.  Amen.
