Ecclesiological Etchings

Scripture: Psalm 23:2-3
He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.

Thought for the Day: One afternoon, when I was 16 or 17 years old, my mom ran to the grocery store while I was out mowing the lawn.  It was a very hot summer day, and when I took a break to go inside the house for a drink, I discovered I had locked myself out.  For five minutes, I panicked as if I had been stuck in the desert for three days with no water.  Then it hit me, I had access to the four faucets on the outside and at least two neighbors who would have let me in for a cool beverage.  Most of us don’t have a real sense of what it means to be stuck in the desert, but I think we can still appreciate these words.  And though we may not always recognize God’s nourishing presence, we can be assured that it is there… much closer than we might initially believe.

Prayer: Holy God, continue to lead us to the places that will nourish our famished souls.  Amen.

  1. We have been in the “desert” dealing with fears over my husband’s cancer and general health. Today we are resting in “green pastures” after successful surgery and good reports. Thanks be to God!
