DID YOU CHANGE
YOUR CLOCKS?
Scripture: Mark 4:2-4
Jesus began to teach them many things in parables, and in his teaching he said to them: “Listen! A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and the birds came and ate it up…”
Thought for the Day: I offer one more story from Dr. Fred Craddock. It’s a story about a phone call he received:
Fred received a phone call from a woman whose father had just died. She had been a teenager in one of the churches he had served as pastor some 20 years before, and he would have sworn that if there ever was a person who never heard a word he said – it was that teenage girl! She was always giggling with her friends in the balcony, passing notes to boys, and drawing pictures on her bulletins.
But yet when her father died, she had looked up her old pastor and gave him a call. “I don’t know if you remember me,” she began. “Oh, yes, I remember,” thought Craddock. “When my daddy died, I thought I was going to come apart,” she continued. “I cried and cried and cried. I didn’t know what to do. But then – I remembered something you said in one of your sermons…”
And, at this, Craddock was completely caught off guard. She had actually remembered something he had said in one of his sermons? It was proof enough to him that you can never tell how the seed will fall, or where it might even take root.
Prayer: Let me trust in your invitation, Lord God, to cast the seed without judgement. Let me cast it – letting it do its thing, even when the soil may not appear good or receptive. Amen.
