Scripture: Psalm 83:1
O God, do not keep silence; do not hold your peace or be still, O God!

Thought for the Day: Yesterday in worship, we spoke about being still; finding a quiet place; making silence a priority.  There are numerous Psalms that invite us to do just that (Psalm 37:7 & 46:10 to name a few) so that we can perceive and acknowledge God who is attempting to speak.  We learned a simple truth in kindergarten: When the teacher speaks, we listen.  For most people, following the rule of our teacher was difficult enough in elementary school, but to impose that advice upon one’s prayer life is even more difficult.  Like many young children, our minds are going crazy-like and to be still is not a personal priority.  We should respect the advice of both our kindergarten teacher and the author of the Psalm, and strive toward a life of stillness before God.  As guess if you have a question, you can always raise your hand.  Otherwise, try not to interrupt.

Prayer: Help me, Merciful God, to step back from whatever it is that’s distracting so I can focus my spiritual energy upon you.  Amen.
